DiverseCity Tech began as an entrepreneurial training program at the San Diego Diego Futures Foundations (SDFF) with funding from ZeroDivide with an initial focus on the community of City Heights.
DiverseCity Tech is a now successful youth-run social enterprise with a long term goal is of increasing the usage of technology among disadvantaged small businesses and nonprofit organizations citywide. Our name symbolizes the diverse mixture of cultures on our team and our community. Our hope is to improve the usage rate of technology, specifically web technologies, in the small business and nonprofit community.
In our first year, we created and administered a survey in order to determine the type of business that would most benefit the small business community. Our survey was administered in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Our team visited over 500 businesses and completed surveys from 154 businesses.
The data we gathered indicated that more than half of the small businesses in City Heights could advance their current marketing strategies to include the use of online marketing tools like: websites, Social Media, Google Tools and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
We have since, expanded our market to include microenterprises and nonprofit organizations. We have also added video production and a video enhanced directory to our menu of services.
